How does sperm donation work?

Published on 23 December 2024

To make a sperm donation, you need to go through a number of stages: an initial appointment including information, a medical check-up (including a search for the risk of transmitting a genetic disease), consent and an initial sperm collection (to assess sperm count and mobility). An interview with one of the center's psychologists is systematically proposed. Then, if the donation is accepted, further sperm collections will be scheduled (between 1 and 5).

N.B. Since September 1, 2022, sperm donation requires consent to give identifying and non-identifying information (e.g. family situation, profession, reasons for donation, etc.) to the child born of the donation, who will have access to this information when he/she reaches the age of majority, if he/she requests it from CAPADD.
