What are tissue grafts used for?

Published on 8 November 2024

Tissue transplants can, for example, save the lives of burn victims (skin transplants), restore sight to the visually impaired (corneal transplants), reconstruct an anatomy enabling the patient to walk again (bone transplants) or replace an infected aorta prosthesis (artery transplants).

In 2023, 13,334 corneas were harvested to treat patients.
