Our commitments
Published on 6 November 2024
The Agence de la biomédecine places neutrality, ethics, expertise and collective commitment at the heart of each of its actions. These principles govern its day-to-day work in all areas: organ, tissue and bone marrow donation and transplantation, medically assisted reproduction, embryo research and human genetics.
From donation to life
Donations are what bring us together – we, the employees of the Agence de la biomédecine, and also healthcare professionals, researchers, patients, donors and their families, associations and institutions, who are our partners on a day-to-day basis. We donate, each in our own way, to improve the health of all.
We are a committed group at the heart of a unique and modern institution that we defend and in which we believe. Aware that trust and dialogue are at the heart of our model, we strive to ensure that transparency, ethics and fairness guide each of our actions, both individually and collectively.
This chain of solidarity, from donation to life, is our raison d’être; we use our scientific expertise in the fields of organ, tissue and bone marrow transplantation, medically assisted reproduction, medical genetics and embryology to benefit the patients and users who need it. We influence, frame and regulate medical practices, ensure fairness, support expertise and encourage research, so that every donation brings the hope of a new life.
The agency’s core values
The Agence de la biomédecine operates with the principles of fairness and neutrality constantly in mind. As a public institution, it does not comment on major bioethical advances, but rather informs the discussions that lead to developments in the field of biomedicine. This status gives the agency recognized authority and ensures that it acts impartially in all the work it carries out.
Established by the Bioethics Law of 2004, ethics are at the heart of the agency’s duties. Every decision and every recommendation considers the ethical issues associated with medical progress. It ensures that all its practices comply with the ethical principles defined by law, by anticipating the questions they raise and by remaining attentive to societal changes. This framework is essential to maintaining the trust of professionals and the general public.
At the Agence de la biomédecine, expertise constitutes a group dynamic. Every day, its 250 employees put their know-how to work to improve public health. Thanks to cross-functionality and the wealth of their multidisciplinary skills, the teams are constantly innovating with a view to improving practices.
The success of the agency’s work relies on collective commitment, based on close collaboration with its partners. The agency oversees a network of medical and scientific experts, institutions and patient associations, who share their knowledge and experience to together improve the quality of care for all.
